BOY SCOUTS

CUB SCOUT WORKSHOPS

Title: Astronomy
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: March 10th, 2012, April 14th, 2012
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Description: This 3 hour workshop will help Cub Scouts fulfill some requirements for their Astronomy Belt Loop and Academics Pin. Activities include creating a model of the Solar System, learning about constellations, a star show, how a telescope works, and more.

Title: Dinosaurs!
Location: Sloan Museum
Date: April 21st, 2012
Time: 1:00 – 3:30pm
Description: Take a walk through Sloan Museum’s Discover Dinosaur exhibit with a Dino-docent while learning about predators and prey in the Dino-world. Explore physical adaptations that helped predators capture their prey and prey animals escape while designing your own dinosaur model.

CUB SCOUT CAMP-IN

Title: Cub Scout Fun Night
Location: Sloan Museum
Date: March 2nd, 2012
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Description: Hang out with the dinosaurs after dark! Explore the museum and visit activity and project stations located throughout the museum. Make a fossil model and start a rock collection, along with other fun stations. This Fun Night experience is a chance to have fun, make new friends, and explore all of our exhibits after dark, including Sloan’s newest traveling exhibit: Discover Dinosaurs and is not designed to complete an activity badge.

WEBELOS CAMP-INS

Title: Weather
Location: Sloan Museum
Date: February 24th, 2012
Time: 5:00 pm – 9:00 am
Description: Participate in hands-on activities that will help Webelos Scouts fulfill requirements towards their Weather Belt Loop and Academics Pin. Scouts will investigate clouds, the water cycle, dangerous weather conditions, rainbows, and construct a weather instrument.

GIRL SCOUTS

BROWNIE WORKSHOPS

Title: Home Scientist Workshop
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: March 3, 2012
Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm
Description: Science is everywhere, even in your own home. Visit the Planetarium kitchen to explore chemistry, density, electricity and more. Brownies, be prepared to get messy while completing your Home Scientist badge.

Title: Senses Workshop
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: March 24, 2012
Time: 12:00pm – 3:00pm
Description: We have five senses that all work together to help experience the world around us. Using their senses  Brownies will complete a scavenger hunt, identify objects in a sound box and learn how to read their name with their  fingers. Girls will use their sight, sound, smell, touch and taste to complete their Senses badge.

Title: Brownie Fun Night
Location: Sloan Museum
Dates: February 17, 2012
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Description: Hang out with the dinosaurs after dark! Explore the museum and visit activity and project stations located throughout the museum. Make a fossil model, reuse found items to create art projects to take home, along with other
fun stations. This fun night is not designed to complete badge requirements.

JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT CAMP-INS

Title: Detective Camp-In
Location: Sloan Museum
Dates: March 9, 2012 and April 13, 2012
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00am
Description: Juniors grab your magnifying glasses and join us for a mystery filled overnight at Sloan Museum. While earning their Detective Badge, girls will learn about fingerprints, break a code and follow the clues to solve a mystery!

Title: Entertainment Technology Camp-In
Location: Longway Planetarium
Dates: April 27, 2012
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00am
Description: Have you ever wondered what keeps you from falling off a rollercoaster or how video games are designed? These are just a few of the technologies that will be explored while earning the Entertainment Technology badge during this overnight. This overnight includes a show in the Longway theater.

Title: Playing the Past Camp-In
Location: Sloan Museum
Dates: March 23, 2012
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00am
Description: How did girls of the past live, work and play? Discover what the girls from other time periods did to occupy their time and then give it a try. Juniors will experience daily life, have some old-fashioned fun and participate
in a living-history party all while exploring the Sloan Museum and earning their Playing the Past badge.

GENERAL INFORMATION

All workshops at Sloan Museum include museum admission. Leaders may want to schedule time to explore the museum on their own after their workshop.
• In order to ensure a quality experience for all participants, we request that no siblings or infants accompany the participant.
• Space is limited. Registration is based on first-come, first served.
• Fees are due at least 2 weeks prior to the event date, however some dates fill up quickly.
• A small snack will be provided during the workshops. Evening snack and breakfast are provided during the camp-ins.
• Fees are non-refundable.
• All workshop/camp-in participants receive a certificate of completion. Leaders are responsible for obtaining the actual award from their local council office.
• Workshops are $9.00 per person, camp-ins are $25.00 per scout and $10.00 per adult chaperone.
• More information regarding camp-ins will be sent with your confirmation.
